Grouping Devices in your abode Home

In December of 2017, we added the ability to Group the devices in your abode Home. By default, the devices are grouped by device type (doors, lights & motion sensors, etc.) but you are free to configure your devices any way you’d like.

Group Settings

To allow you to create groups to meet the needs of the different users in your family, our grouping preferences are configurable per abode account.   So each user will be able to configure their own grouping settings.  Please note that your grouping settings will be the same for the web and mobile apps; there is no way to configure different settings per app.

Device Faults Group

Anytime there is a sensor fault, this device will be placed into the Device Faults group.  This group only appears when there are device faults.  If there are no device faults in your abode Home, you will not see this group.  When faults are present, this group always shows up at the top of your device list.  You cannot move the Device Faults group, it will always be the first group.

Ungrouped Group

When you have a device that has not been assigned to a group, it will show up in the Ungrouped group at the bottom of your device list.  If there are no ungrouped devices in your abode Home, you will not see this group.  When there are ungrouped devices, this group will always show up at the bottom of the device list.  You cannot move the Ungrouped group, it will always be your last group.

 

Create a New Group

You can add new groups to your device list by following the steps below.

To create a new group via your abode Web App:

  1. Click the Add Group Button at the top of the Dashboard Tab
  2. Name your new group.
  3. Add devices to your new group by clicking the + Add button or dragging and dropping a device into your new group.
  4. Save your new group by clicking the Save button.

That’s it, your new group has been created and is placed at the top of your list.

To create a new group via your abode Mobile App:

  1. Click the Add Group button
  2. Name your Group
  3. Add Devices to your group by clicking the + sign next to a device.
  4. When you are finished, click the checkmark to save your changes.

That’s it, your new group has been created and is placed at the top of the list.

Ungroup / Delete an Existing Group

You can ungroup/delete an existing group by moving all devices from the group to another group or by using the Ungroup functionality.  If you use the Ungroup functionality, all of the devices that were in this group will be added to the Ungrouped group.

To ungroup or delete a group via your abode Web App:

  1. Hover over the group that you would like to ungroup / delete and click on the More Options Menu (….).

  1. Select Ungroup from the dropdown

  1. Confirm that you would like to ungroup / delete this group.


That’s it, the devices from this group are now available in the Ungrouped Group at the bottom of the device list.

To ungroup or delete a group via your abode Mobile App:

  1. Click the More Options Menu (….) on the right-hand side of the group label
  2. Select Ungroup
  3. Confirm that you would like to ungroup / delete this group by clicking Ungroup

That’s it, the devices from this group are now available in the Ungrouped Group at the bottom of the device list.

Rearrange Groups

To rearrange groups via your abode Web App:

  1. Click the Rearrange button.
  2. In the Rearrange Groups UI, click and hold a group and then drag it to move it to another location.
  3. You’ll see the grid expand and a dotted outline will appear where the group will be located when you release your mouse.  When you are happy with the new groups placement, release your mouse.
  4. You can move your groups around until you have your desired arrangement.  When you are finished, click the Save button.

To rearrange groups via your abode Mobile App:

  1. Click the More Options Menu (….)  on the right-hand side of the group label
  2. Select Rearrange Groups
  3. To move group, click and hold on the handle and then drag the group into the desired location.
  4. You can move the groups around until you have your desired arrangement.  When you are finished, click the checkmark to save changes.

 

Rearrange Devices within a Group

To rearrange devices within an existing group via your abode Web App:

  1. Hover over the group name and click on the More Option Menu (…) on the group you want to rearrange.
  2. Select Edit Group from the Dropdown
  3. Drag and drop the devices into your desired order by clicking, holding, and dragging to the new position.  You will see the devices separate indicating the drop position.
  4. When you are happy with the arrangement, click the Save button.

That’s it, you have just rearranged the device in your group.

To rearrange devices within an existing group via your abode Mobile App:

  1. Click the More Options Menu (….)  on the right-hand side of the group label
  2. Select Edit Group
  3. Select Rearrange Devices
  4. To move a device, click and hold on the handle and then drag the device up or down into the desired location.
  5. You can move the devices around until you have your desired arrangement.  When you are finished, click the checkmark to save changes.
